Sorry I never finished part II of the Wizard World Chicago Comic Con experience! Looking back through my first post, I pretty much summed it up but didn't mention all the awesome people I met and still communicate with through Facebook.
I have some awesome news! Marvel Entertainment is featuring cosplays throughout the month as part of their 3rd annual Costoberfest event and Domino and Cable 3 made it to day 8! You can check it out here.
This is quite a busy month for me! On Sunday, my girlfriends and I are getting together for our annual Ladies' Pumpkin Carving Night! I'm not sure what I'll do this year, but it will be geeky. Last year was my first attempt at carving and I did a pretty decent Sailor Moon silhouette, but I definitely overestimated my abilities. This year I bought some better tools.
I have another photo shoot coming up with in two weeks and I've decided to redo some parts of my Lady Sif costume for it. The corset was my first attempt at clothing and I'm not happy with the top of it. Also, the marine vinyl bled through a bit because I didn't bother lining it. I'm a sewing noob!! I bought a corset and will use it as a pattern to make the new Sif corset. Hopefully that turns out well. I also want to redo the armor and bootcovers. Lots to do in two weeks' time! Hmm..why does that sound familiar? -___-
Halloween is quickly approaching and my friends and I usually enter a local contest as a group. Last year we all went as Marvel characters. I was Black Widow. We had a ton of fun and we won! This year we still don't know what we're doing, so it may not even be a group thing. I have most of the materials I need to make a Black Cat costume, so I'm going to start on that this weekend.
I've decided to make a New 52 Katana costume for C2E2 next year. My girlfriends will be other members of Birds of Prey. It seems like a fairly simple costume, but upon closer inspection, I realized what will be needed to make the armor. I know nothing of casting, so I think I'll use a base body suit and add different fabric on top of it for the armor with a little padding so it looks something like motocross gear. I have time to play around.
I'm also hoping to pull off something a little more ambitious next year which involves lights, sound, and possibly moving parts, but I'm not going to announce it unti I know I can pull it off for sure. I'd like to make a simple costume as well to build my base. So basically, I want to do ALL THE THINGS!
Be on the lookout for possible pumpkin pics as well as pics from the CosIT Photography photo shoot later this month!

Wizard World Chicago Comic Con 2013 Pt. I
The Wizard World Chicago Comic Con was my first comic con. I have been to Anime Central and to GenCon a couple of times. I had a fantastic weekend! When I go to a con, I tend to be so wrapped up in cosplaying and in taking photos of other cosplayers that I have no time to go to any panels or events, but I don't mind. This year I went with a great group of friends, some veterans and some new to the con scene altogether. I think almost all of us procrastinated a little too long and so we started our trip much later than we had planned. I waited until about 2 weeks before the con to actually start constructing my costume. That probably wo
Progress
Wizard Con starts this upcoming Thursday! My friends and I are leaving early Friday morning and will stay the night for two nights. Of course, I procrastinated and started working on my Saturday costume about a week ago OTL. I am finishing up the corset in the next couple of days along with armor, boot covers, and the waistbelt. I have everything else made/bought. I'm a noob at sewing and prefer to learn as I go, so I've made my own patterns. So far, everything seems to be going well. The corset is my biggest hump, I'd say. No WIP pics to show as they wouldn't be very exciting anyway. Can't wait to get finished and head to the con!
Cosplay Photoshoot
We had a photoshoot yesterday and I made a new friend! I was going as Domino and the face paint alone stressed me out all morning. I was using Ben Nye's MagiCake Aqua Paint and ever time I'd try to layer it, the first layer would come up, regardless of how long I let it dry. Not saying anything bad about the product; I'm sure it was my fault. Maybe too much LiquiSet or maybe I shouldn't have been using it at all. I had to redo it three times and then finally decided to say screw the water-based paint and go with Ben Nye Clown White. The application was much easier, but no matter how much setting powder I put on it, it still smudged/came
So far...
Well, I nearly have everything together for Domino. I just need to make a couple of 'X' patches, but I have everything else. As for Sif, Comic Con is only two short months away and I haven't started on anything! Such is cosplay though, right? I do have the white fur, thread, velcro, craft foam, and I ordered the fabric (marine vinyl), but the wrong stuff came in. So dealing with that is fun. I still need to get a lot of materials and time is running out. I'm going to get new fabric this week as well as paint, wooden wheels (for her hair and belt accessories), a belt, and maybe some red heels if I can find them. I'll post some WIP pics
